Academic Support

Worked closely with students enrolled in the Analytical Writing Program (AWP), read student papers during one-on-one mentoring sessions, advised those student writers in real time through conversation, remained committed to academic integrity and had an interest in advising and teaching rather than editing or proofreading.

Student Organization

Prepared the budget of the organization, maintained financial records, and participated in the organization's planning of events and projects.

Mentorship

Received individualized support from a peer mentor that provided guidance on transition and integration into college academics and student life. Engaged in specific milestones that required attendance and participation in high-impact resources, community spaces, and reflection activities on their development as a first-year student.

Research

Conducted research under the guidance of a principal investigator, culminating in a presentation of the student?s research project at the BUMMP Annual Research Symposium.

Mentorship

Participated in training program aimed at learning skills to be able to plan, develop, advertise and deliver psycho-educational workshops and interactive presentations related to mental health and wellness throughout the year.

Academic Support

Supported instructors during Carpentries workshops and provided one-on-one assistance to participants through Q/A and troubleshooting during live sessions focused on coding (Python and/or R), utilizing software tools, and/or implementing data management best practices.

Student Organization

Facilitated and participated in executive meetings and decision-making processes, volunteered and led other volunteers in accomplishing the goals, completing the tasks, and strategizing on projects, event planning, and managing other logistics of the organization.

Job

Supported the production of UC San Diego Magazine, a twice-yearly print and online publication, by performing complex duties under general supervision, gaining hands-on experience in storytelling, print publication production, and University Communications.

Completed an intensive year-long program with skill development emphasis in social justice, inter-sectional analysis, effective communication, teamwork, project management, customer service, and community building across students, staff, faculty, K-12, and San Diego community constituents.

Leadership

Acclimated students to college life at Eighth College through the fall orientation program.

Participated in extensive trainings, lived in campus housing and served as a residential leader, policy enforcer, mediator, and inclusive activities coordinator to foster strong community bonds amongst Eighth College residents.

Workshop Series

Worked closely with a faculty member to co-teach the First Year Experience (FYE) course, including preparing lesson plans, leading discussion sections, holding office hours and program implementation.

Volunteering

Participated in a selective week-long immersive service project led by UC San Diego's Making of the Modern World Program (Eleanor Roosevelt College) working on Native American Reservations, State and National Parks and other natural settings, and with other communities.

Student Organization

Researched and wrote in-depth articles on innovative UCSD-affiliated lab research, collaborated with the Features Editor to ensure scientific accuracy and accessibility, and made complex topics engaging for a broad audience of biology majors.

Academic Support

Advised students on academic requirements, policies, and procedures, and participated in various academic advising initiatives, programs, and projects.

Volunteering

Collaborated on direction for the Seventh College garden space, and worked with volunteers to assist with garden maintenance, planting and harvest, and educational and community development training and management programs.

Internship

Raised awareness of sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking within the UCSD community through tabling, workshops, and events, while also promoting activities and attitudes that contribute to ending violence.

Leadership

Led Sixth College Community Board (CoBoard) executive and general board members in leadership and event planning, organized evens for the Sixth College Community, created opportunities for residents to engage in creativity, service, and community building.

Research

Engaged in research with an inter-disciplinary cohort to think about both formal and informal institutions, systems of knowledge, how the built environment shapes us, and how we shape it; explored, problematized, and utilized notions of art, technology, and culture, and explored larger institutional issues that engage with Sixth College, UCSD, the broader San Diego community, and the world.

Professional Development

Participated on a team that: traveled to the Student Cluster Competition; assembled a supercomputing cluster and kept it operational; competed against 16 national and international teams; ran 7 Science apps; interacted with meeting attendees and vendors.

Workshop Series

Completed milestone activities from Student Success Coaching Program, which included goal setting, workshops, reflection assignments, self-assessments, leadership activities, faculty engagement, and more.

Job

Managed the front desk, answered student questions, provided assistance with technology, and provided administrative support for the Center.
