UC San Diego Competencies

The twelve UCSD Competencies are attributes that contribute to a students' overall growth and often come from experiential Learning opportunities. These competencies promote reflection on student success and development at UC San Diego.

When an opportunity is submitted to the Co-Curricular Record (CCR), in order to become CCR approved it must fulfill at least three of the twelve competencies. Those associated competencies will also appear on a students' CCR, providing additional context for that opportunity. The competencies are also incorporated into all the Experiential Learning programs and initiatives.

Where did the Competencies come from?

The framework and definitions were created to align with the learning outcomes and competencies of:

  • Association of American Colleges & Universities (AAC&U) Value Learning Outcomes
  • Council for the Advancement of Standards (CAS) in Higher Education Learning & Development Outcomes
  • WASC Senior College and University Commission Core Competencies.
  • National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Career Readiness Competencies

The competencies are reviewed on a four-year cycle by the UCSD Education Initiative Workgroup.
