Competency Description
Participates in service/volunteer activities characterized by reciprocity, engages in critical reflection, and appropriately challenges unfair and unjust behavior to make a positive difference in the community.
Examples
A select list of activities (with descriptions) in the CCR that are associated with the Civic Engagement/Social Responsibility competency:
- Cross-Cultural Center Intern (Cross-Cultural Center)
- Created space for peers to think critically about social justice and invite people to bring their lived experiences and current social justice issues into the conversation. Research, plan, organize, facilitate, and evaluate educational workshops and programs on social justice topics for a variety of peer groups.
- Associated Students Marshall College Senator (Thurgood Marshall College Student Council)
- Collaborated and communicated with all Council members about key university and Associated Students decisions, gathered the input of Council and Marshall students to inform Associated Students decision-making, and represented Thurgood Marshall College Student Council to Associated Students.
- Integrity Mentor (Integrity Mentorship Program, Academic Integrity Office)
- Mentored students one-on-one in a high-impact, high-stakes program, including weekly meetings, behavioral note-taking, coordination with program staff to meet individual needs of mentees, and advising students on matters of academic and professional integrity.
