Securing an Internship

Before applying to AIP, students must have secured an internship prior to applying to AIP.

AIP does not place students in internships or with faculty advisors, but we can help support students with how to secure one. Our student services include: application preparation (including resume and cover letter feedback), interview preparation, appointments with peer advisors and internship counselors, support through AIP application processes, reflection, and career development.

If you have already secured an internship, we encourage you to review the course and unit options for the AIP courses.

Recommended steps to secure an internship

Finding an Internship

While searching for an internship can be challenging, here are some resources and tips to explore:

  • Search with InternLink, AIP's internship database for pre-approved opportunities
    • Focus your search using filters and different keywords
    • Follow instructions on the required application documents and procedures
  • Search through options on the Career Center's Handshake
  • Utilize your network
    • Consider connecting to professional organizations and alumni
    • Peers

Applying for a Position

Once you have found positions you are interested in, some tips to keep in mind:

  • Update your resume - you may want to tailor your resume to the specific job description.
  • Update your cover letter - your cover letter should be a way to expand on your experiences within the context of the position.
  • Prepare for an interview - consider doing a mock interview at the Career Center. You may want to research common questions that are asked for positions of that level. Consider asking the point of contact for the company/organization if there is anything you should prepare for the interview.

You can request an appointment with an AIP counselor through the VAC to plan for any stage of the process.
